Teacher Made Balance Scale Activity
Center 6 implemented an amazing hand on science activity with their children. Teachers created a balance scale out of household materials to teach children about weight. Teachers encouraged children to weigh different objects. Through this activity children learned many different science and math concepts such as making observations and predictions about objects and events, comparing weight of objects, expanding vocabulary: scale, heavy, light, more, less. |

Teamwork Success
Center 2 family workers want to thank all teachers, maintenance, curriculum, administrative managers, and Esmeralda, family worker that assisted us with this event. Everyone worked as a team and helped make this event happen. Mayra got two great presenters that shared great information on Interviewing and How to dress for an Interview. Parents were very happy and it appears we possibly had about 90 families attend. Policy council members invited and most came from different centers. Very successful event. |

Mother’s Day 2018
On May 11, 2018 Parents, staff and children celebrated Mother's Day. Teachers encourage mothers to come to the class to have the opportunity to paint with their children and spend quality time. Teachers also encourage children to give the gift they made for their mommies. Mothers were very pleased with the activities. |

Under the Sea Father Daughter Dance
Le Jardin hosted a under the sea Father Daughter Dance on April 13, 2018. The event featured music, food, extraordinary Martial Arts Girls Demo performed, and a friendly atmosphere where fathers and daughters danced the evening away. We would like to thank all the teachers, staff and volunteers for putting in their time to bring this wonderful event together. Le Jardin understands the importance a father makes on his daughter. |

Fine motor skills and Dramatic play
It is very important to assist children develop fine motor skills because children little hands need to develop dexterity and strength. As teachers, we can help this process by encouraging children to play, explore and interact with a variety of items. Toys, clothing fasteners, safe scissors and tearing paper and/or play dough are all tactile examples of practices that facilitate fine motor development. |

Fostering Independence
Being independent comes from knowing how to do things and being confident in your abilities to handle different situations effectively. Independence closely linked to competence and self-esteem and this is why it is so important. Center 5B foster independence by encourage children to put on their socks and shoes. |

Science Insect/Spider Habitat Activities
Center 6 teachers and children participating in creating beehives and spider webs and talking about animal habitats. The children have been learning about various types of insects and about spiders all week by looking for bugs outdoors, reading/listening to books and stories, and singing songs. |

Children and teachers made Shamrock green smoothies. Children can learn, at a very young age, how to independently wash their hands, brush their teeth, get dressed and undressed, and serve themselves. Under the teacher’s supervision, children were encouraged to help put the ingredients in the blender and served themselves their own smoothie. |

March 10, 2018 teachers and children in center 6 mixed primary colors in cups filled with water, rolled up some paper towels and placed them in each jar connecting the rolls of paper towels to each jar. The children then watched as the paper absorbed the colored water from each jar, bleeding into the each other to create a "rainbow “effect. |

Please, Baby, Please – Read
African-American Read On is an initiative to encourage parents to read to their children at home. The books were provided to Le Jardin Community Center EHS/HS classrooms from the Community Action and Human Services Division of Miami Dade (CAHSD). Le Jardin decided to choose African-American mothers to read to their child's classroom asking questions, introducing vocabulary and discussion about the authors, characters and story. On February 28, 2018, the mothers that read to the class each received the bookPlease, Baby, Please to take home to read to their children. Filmmaker Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee join the ranks of other celebrity kids' book writers with their sweet, rhythmic read-along about the endless energy of a toddler blasting through a busy day. |

Visit from the Little Farm
On 2/27/18, The Little Farm visited Le Jardin’s Center 2 Early Head Start Grantee and Delegate program. Today and throughout last week, our toddlers have been learning the names of farm animals, recognizing animal sounds, types of food they eat like hay, corn and oats. Children are also leaning how chickens give us eggs, cows and goats give us milk and sheep give us wool (yarn). They listened to stories, had fun with hands on activities and spent time with and baby farm animals. |

Art and Jazz under the Stars 2018
On February 16, 2018 we held our fourth annual Art and Jazz under the stars event. Children, parents, and teachers painted, made decorations and sculptures for our annual Art and Jazz night. Each classroom selected a different artist; children and parents had the opportunity to learn about the artist by reading books and discussing their work. |

Science Focus Wind Activities
For the month of February 2018, the EHS science focus is wind. The classrooms have been incorporating wind activities throughout their lesson plans. Children created anemometers by reusing materials. Children also explored blowing bubbles and creating kites to fly outdoors. They also participated in creative dancing with scarves using movement. With these activities, the children have learned that wind can move things and even if it is invisible they can feel it on their skin and can observe it by watching objects that can be moved by the wind. |

Sand Activities
Center 5B February 12, 2018 enjoying a sand activity. In this activity, the children enjoyed exploring and discovering for about 40 minutes with wet sand. They made castles using cups and decorated it with shells. They enjoy putting their handprints and toes in the sand. They used different materials such as shovels, cubes, cups and shells. A child pretended to make an ice pop. They used their sense of touch and smell to explore the wet sand. Children had lots of fun. |

Give Me 5
Together on February 8, 2018, we positively impacted more than 60 families through Nutrition Education and providing bags full of fruits and vegetables. A special thanks to Stephanie for this great partnership and working continuously with Maria Motta and I for the success of this activity. We are looking forward to the next #GiveMe5 visits! Miami Dade County Public Schools - Kindergarten Workshop
Several Le Jardin Education staff participated in a kindergarten worship on February 3, 2018 emphasizing in math and school readiness sponsored by Miami Dade County Public Schools and held at Homestead Senior High School for county, Head Start and private school staff whose 4 year olds will be transitioning to kindergarten this fall. Le Jardin Education managers will be duplicating the training, along with an emphasis on phonological awareness, on the March Teacher workday. |

Frost Museum Field Trip
January 25, 2018 The Frost Art Museum encourages schools to take advantage of the museums unique educational resources that help teach many aspects of early childhood curriculums aligning with standards that support science. Le Jardin Center 2 children visited the River of Grass, interactive exhibits, colorful fish tanks and an aquarium that is 2 stories tall, the stingray tank, water play, aviary, and much more. |

Science Experiment
On January 18, 2018 Center 5A had a science activity covering astonishing air. In this activity, children understand the definition of Experiment, the vocabulary words of deflated and inflated, what is the difference between liquids, solids, and more. The activity covers learning opportunities across the Curriculum, but most of all, the children are having fun exploring with hands on experiences such as mixing baking soda with Vinegar in a recycled bottle and covering that bottle with a balloon. The balloon then expands from the chemical reaction to vinegar and baking soda creates. |

Polar Bear and Toast
On January 18, children from Le Jardin had nutritional activity. Teachers read a story and then worked on the nutrition activity. Children have fun making their polar bear toast as well as tasting and learning about new foods and textures. |

Police Officer Visit
On October 26, 2017 the Le Jardin children, teaching staff, and families celebrated Building Bridges in Head Start by having Police Officers read to the children and discuss their community responsibilities. |

Fire Department
Having the firefighters visit center 4 and 6 on October 26, 2017, not only was fun for the children but also was safety learning experience for children, parents, and staff. Perhaps the most valuable part of the field trip was when the firefighters demonstrated their equipment.Children also learned about the different types of trucks firefighters use, including pumper trucks and ladder trucks. A firefighter explained how the many tools that are stored on different trucks are used in fighting fires. |

Center 5B room 6 October 4, 2017 painting with toy cars is a fun art process and sensory experience for kids. The car tires make interesting patterns in the paint and kids can learn about color mixing as the cars move from one color to another. |

Children Engaged
September 2017 Early Head Start Children happily engaged in different activities such as creating telescope using recyclable materials, plating beans in a bowl with moist cottons and learned how plants grow, worked on their fine motor skills creating flowers using different materials, painting with recyclable items, participated in a sensory activity using ice, and large group activities. |

On September 30, 2017 the parents and children from Le Jardin center 6 learned about plants and how to take care of them. |

Paper Bag Lungs
On September 29, 2017 teachers from room 9 center 5B did a science activity with children called Paper Bag Lungs. Teacher gave each child a lunch-size paper bag, one plastic straw to discuss how our lungs work. |

Hat Day
During the month of September is fall hat month. On September 29, Site VB and 6 celebrate Fall Hat month by doing a book character hat day/crazy hat day. Children had a blast making their hat and participating in the activity. |

Garden Project
On Wednesday, September 27 parents from room 5 took the initiative to help in preparing our garden. We appreciate the help giving and valued their time. Teachers took the opportunity to teach about plants and the process of planting a plant. Also, thank you to Ms. Bolivar for taking the initiative to start this project, to all the teachers for participating and encouraging parents to assist on this educational project and Ms. Ramos for helping so much. |

Dads Take Your Child to School Day
On September 27, 2017 Center 5B invited dads to drop their child at school. Some fathers sit during breakfast and other fun activities with their child. |

Garden Activities
On September 28, 2017 Parents and Teachers from Le Jardin Centers 5B and 6, took the initiative to help in preparing our garden, working together to create our garden and enjoin ing fun activities as well. |

Exploring Sticky
On September 27, 2017 Teacher created a sticky table for the children to participate in sticky activity. Children explored a cool sensory experience by doing this activity. |

Oral Health
September 25, 2017, Center 6 room 1 discussed the importance of brushing teeth. Teachers used a big board with big teeth made of plastic bottles to show the children how to brush their teeth. |

Hat Day
September 24th, 2017 teachers, parents, and children at Site 4 participated in a fun activity Children had the opportunity to get creative and designed their own hat. |

The Three Little Pigs
Center 1 rooms 2 and 3, after the story the Three Little Pigs and discussion of wind and types of weather, children worked in groups to build three types of homes. The children made predictions whether or not their buildings would make it through the strong winds (using fanlike movement, a fan, etc.). |

Expressing their Creativity
Center 6 room 2 provided the children with variety of materials such as paper, crayons, paint, glue, and scissors. Children had the opportunity to express their emotions and feelings using their creativity. |

Parent Orientation Night
Le Jardin Community Center Parent Orientation was held on Thursday, August 17th. Parents participated in Bus Safety training, introduction to the child assessment process, health and safety, Getting to Know Your Child, school information and more. Parents and children met their teachers and learned about ways to volunteer. We had an awesome turnout of families on orientation night. All teachers worked very hard to get their classrooms ready for our parents and students. Attached are just some snapshots of our great night. |
